yvynyl:
For 7 years I have been writing about music nearly daily as a hobby, as a passion project. I don’t get paid, I don’t do it for glory. I do it because I love music. I do it because I love musicians. I do it because I love being swept away into other worlds. I do it because I love feeling…

Filthy Boy - Jimmy Jammies
London outfit Filthy Boy recently signed with Stranger Records and are set to release their debut album ‘Smile That Won’t Go Down’ this April. I’m guessing the band are in a celebratory mood as they’ve just released a video for the album track ‘Jimmy Jammies’. Really liking it.

TORRES - Honey
Every once in a while a song comes along and leaves such an impact on you, you are literally left speechless and the only thing you still manage to do properly is to hit repeat over and over again. TORRES is the moniker of 22 year old singer-songwriter Mackenzie Scott, she hails from Nashville, Tennessee. This evening I stumbled upon ‘Honey’ and I’ve got to be honest, it has...

Octo Octa – So Lux
Brooklyn artist Octo Octa just dropped this really sparkling, warped House number on his SoundCloud page. It’s called ‘So Lux’ and I will be playing it on repeat for the rest of the night. Too fresh.

Active Child - His Eye Is On the Sparrow
Active Child’s Pat Grossi has recorded a beautifully sparse version of the gospel hymn ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’. The song was originally written in 1905 and has been covered by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Whitney Housten. The song does shimmer through the sparseness with Grossi’s falsetto sending chills.

Bastille – Pompeii
Bastille’s ‘Bad Blood’, which is due out on March 4, is already one of the most anticipated upcoming releases of 2013. The London-based pop band, fronted by their phenomenally talented producer Dan Smith, are really living up to the hype on their glorious new single ‘Pompeii’. The track is wrapped with one of the most infectious hooks I’ve heard in quite some time,...

Troumaca – Lady Colour
Introducing Troumaca, another in the wave of excellent new bands flooding out of Birmingham at the minute. Perhaps, easy to overlook with Swim Deep and Peace signing to major labels and generating a hell of a lot of blog buzz. Troumaca are about to drop their debut EP, ‘Virgin Island’, on January 28th. The lead single is ‘Lady Colour’ and it’s like a fusion of Indie...

Happa - Freak
‘Freak’ is the new cut from Leeds wonderkid Samir Alikhanizadeh, aka Happa. While most fifteen year old’s were probably tearing open there iPhones/iPads over the xmas period, Happa kindly dropped this absolute gem on us. ‘Freak’ is dark and eerie, with one seriously killer house beat. Raekwon - 'Never Can Say Goodbye' & 'Neither One...
Raekwon just dropped two new tracks, one a freestyle, the other taken from his upcoming LP ‘The Jewelry Store’, due next week. ’Never Can Say Goodbye’ sees The Chef laying down some bars over a really smooth beat. ‘Neither One of Us’ sees the Wu-Tang Clan member making good use of the Gladys Knight hit of the same name.

Swim Deep – The Sea
One of my favourite new bands, Birmingham’s Swim Deep, dropped two absolute diamonds last year with the release of ‘Honey’ and its B-side ’Orange County’. BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephen’s premiered their latest single ‘The Sea’ on his slot this morning. It’s another totally infectious piece of indie pop with some great ‘ooh ahh’...

Having dropped their debut EP ‘Cities’ last year, Leeds-based outfit Atlas are relatively new to the scene. Their latest release ‘Feel Me’ has left me simply blown away, I was not expecting this song to be as...

Moods - Love Is Real
‘Love Is Real’ is the smooth new instrumental cut from Netherlands-based producer Moods. That old school hip-hop style beat had my head bopping instantly and vocal samples used here are very slick. Good vibes all round. Check out more of his sounds over on his SoundCloud.

Au.Ra - Sun
Some really nice, laid back surf-rock/dream-pop for you to enjoy courtesy of Sydney outfit Au.Ra and their new song ‘Sun’. While the comparisons to Tame Impala will be hard to avoid, there are similarities to bands like Beach Fossils and DIIV too. ‘Sun’ is completely enjoyable from start to finish and it seems to just float along over an ultra chilled-out melody and...

Ecstasy - White Limos
Ecstasy are an electronic/indie group hailing from London who only just formed in September of 2012. I just stumbled upon their latest song, ‘White Limos’, and it’s really good. It could easily be mistaken for a M83 or MGMT track with its euphoric vocals, hypnotic synths and beats but they’re definitely doing their own thing here. Ecstasy are currently unsigned. Expect to...

Pretty Heart - Toy
Pretty Heart (aka 20 year old Morgan Hollinger) has been recording music from her bedroom since she was 16 years of age. Morgan has released two EPs under the Pretty Heart name, “Blood/Body” and “Half Asleep.” Still currently unsigned, and yet to make a splash on the blog scene, it’s impossible to imagine she’ll remain a secret if she keeps dropping music like...

Josh Ritter – New Lover
The excellent Josh Ritter has just announced a March 2013 release for his new album, The Beast in Its Tracks, it will be his 7th full-length album. I’ve been a fan of Josh Ritter ever since I was introduced to him by a friend at Electric Picnic a couple of years ago. Minnesota Indie rockers Low have recruited Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy to produce their 10th studio album, The Invisible Way. ‘Plastic Cup’ is the first offering from that album, which was recorded at Wilco’s Chicago headquarters, and it sounds just great. The harmonies here are really lovely as is the gentle guitar playing and warm, yet dark toned melody.

Palmistry - Way Beyond
British electronic producer Palmistry dropped three new tracks on his Soundcloud recently; ‘Shrimps Last Dance’, ‘Vapor’ and ‘Way Beyond’. I’ve chosen to post ‘Way Beyond’ as I think it’s the pick of the three. Palmistry mixes warped vocals with synths and an atmospheric, ambient beat.

Flatbush Zombies - MRAZ
‘MRAZ’ the new cut from Hip-Hop group Flatbush Zombies. They caused quite an amount of noise this year and look to be ending 2012 on a high. I’m expecting this Brooklyn rap collective to blow up in 2013 after grabbing the attention of everyone in Hip Hop. Stream the track below.

Shy Girls - Under Attack
Stream the premiere of Portland based crooner Shy Girl’s slow burner “Under Attack” below. This mellow R&B jam sits somewhere between Frank Ocean and How To Dress Well and it has absolutely floored me. Just wait until the sax kicks in. Going to try my hardest to catch this guy live as I heard he performs with a 7-piece live band setup. Download his previous EP ‘Sex in the City’...

Streets Of Laredo - Girlfriend
Brooklyn-based New Zealand indie-folk outfit Streets of Laredo have just released their new single ‘Girlfriend’ and it’s pretty damn catchy. Dom McLennon - MAAD World
19 year old up and comer, Dom McLennon just dropped a new cut called ‘MAAD World’. This is shamefully my first introduction to the Rap artist, but the lyrical deliverance on this track makes it a truly memorable affair. On ‘MAAD World’, Dom gives us a glimpse into his thoughts and life with a notably high amount of energy within his vocals. Expect to hear more from this...

Laurel Halo – Sunlight On The Faded
Laurel Halo’s experimental debut album ‘Quarantine’ was one of 2012’s most gutsiest releases. It was a brilliant album that pushed the boundaries of using “machines” to express emotions, while Halo stretched the limits of her vocals in a very unique way. ‘Sunlight On The Faded’ is Laurel Halo’s first release since ‘Quarantine’....

Wild Beasts - Stray
It’s always a strong testament to how a good a band truly are when they release songs that didn’t make an album, yet turn out to be just as good as anything you’d hear in its place. This is definitely the case with Wild Beasts’ latest offering ‘Stray’. It’s a previously unreleased track that failed to make it onto their most recent album, the brilliant...

Temple Songs – I Can’t Look After You

At just over two minutes long, it’s a really thrilling offering of fast paced psych-rock that sounds like a mash-up between Thee Oh Sees with The Stooges. Make...
