Link: Kwes - Igoyh

London based Producer Kwes dropped the extremely moving ‘Igoyh’ this month, set to be on his forthcoming ‘Meantime’ EP. Having built a name for himself by working with the likes of The xx, Ghostpoet and Damon Albarn he’s set to follow up on his 2010 ‘No Need To Run’ EP by stepping out on his own once more. Describing his own music as “pop without boundaries” this really is a wonderful number. On first listen, ‘Igoyh’ sounds as if it could be a ‘James Blake’ release but as the song unfolds it becomes more reminiscent of SBTRKT’s work with Sampha on the likes of “Hold On”. Sung over a lush blend of synth and rumbling bass along with what seems like an Electronic Orchestra comes truly beautiful song writing on lines such as “I can count the times on a couple of fingers, when things weren’t wonderful”. With all these elements the song finds true beauty with Kwes’ deeply moving soulful voice, tying it altogether and making this unforgettable ballad. The song runs for 7 minutes and with the fitting line “I’m not going anywhere” before it fades into a haze of synths and piano. The EP drops May 1st.
