The xx - Angels

It feels like forever since The xx dropped their stunning, self-titled debut, doesn’t it? After the release of that album it seemed that just about everyone, including myself, seemed to fall head over heels for the London trio, so you could imagine my excitement when I heard their new song, Angels. A while back the group announced they will be releasing album number two Coexist this September, but up until now there has been no official new music. Angels, the gorgeous new release, is the first non-live piece of music we have heard from The xx and it sounds like it could easily have been off the last album. It’s an understated and touching love song, featuring some sweet guitar chords and beautiful vocals from Romy Madley Croft. It doesn’t show any signs of the supposed “Dancefloor” direction Jamie Smith said the album will take, so it’s very exciting to see how the rest of the album will sound. If it sounds anything like this, it should be another excellent release.
Coexist is due September 10th via Young Turks.
