Roosevelt – Sea

‘Sea’ is the exceptional debut track from Cologne-based musician, Roosevelt, a new artist who has been garnering a serious amount of hype lately. His music, which is brilliant by the way, mixes elements of Chill Wave, Disco and Pop so it’s as broad as it is enjoyable really. He’s been backed heavily by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, and if Electronic Pop is your thing then you’ll definitely dig this. I’ve had it on repeat all evening and will be blaring it as loud as possible when I eventually get to a Halloween party!

CHVRCHES – The Mother We Share

Glaswegian three-piece CHVRCHES have shared their brand new single “The Mother We Share” and it’s a real gem of an electronic-pop song. CHVRCHES have been heralded as Glasgow’s answer to Purity Ring, and the similarities are striking. In Lauren Mayberry, the band possess an exceptional vocalist who is capable of being powerful enough to sing over the tracks smooth synths and beats but remain incredibly clear throughout. It’s the vocals that steal the show for me here, a really great release. “The Mother We Share” is out November 5, via National Anthem.

The Pass - Without Warning

The Pass and Passion Pit were just too of the bands in which Foster the People shall we say borrowed their sound from, so bare that in mind when listening to their very Foster the People like new track, Without Warning. The synth rockers are set to release their new album Melt, the follow up to 2010s excellent Burst (check out Treatment Of The Sun), later this year. The album was mixed by Alex Aldi, who worked with Passion Pit on their new album Gossamer. With their last album sounding like the love child of Phoenix and Passion, Without Warning follows up on that sound but heads straight for the Dancefloor. A killer mix of indie and disco that the band says was “musically intended to shake your money maker”. Their last album was shamefully underrated and seemed to lose its way that year; this new track however is destined to be big. Stream their brilliant new track below on SoundCloud.

The Hundred In The Hands - Keep It Low

Keep It Low

Brooklyn based electro-pop outfit The Hundred In The Hands have made the first track from their upcoming second album, Red Night, available for free download. “Keep It Low” has everything you want from an electronic pop song, with singer Eleanore Everdell vocals sounding amazing over Jason Friedman’s Depeche Mode style synths and dark sub-bass. Check it out in the link below and download the track here.

Kindness - That’s Alright

World, You Need a Change of Mind

To be honest, I could have chosen any song off ‘World, You Need A Change Of Mind’ but after seeing Kindness live in Porto last week I went with their set closer, That’s Alright. The beauty about this album is that every song is different, and all are enjoyable. Adam Bainbridge’s style of music is a fusion of the 80’s pop with new age electro funk and synth pop, think Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti mixed with Prince, sounds good right? This song is an absolute belter, and from the moment that horn comes in and mashes with a blast of synth and drum, you’ll be hooked. On That’s Alright, Bainbridge has displayed a knack of taking an outdated style of music and giving it a modern feel, as well as creating something entirely awesome.

World, You Need A Change Of Mind is out now via Polydor / Female Energy.

Tanlines - All Of Me

Mixed Emotions

Here is the second single from Electronic-Pop duo Tanlines debut LP, Mixed Emotions. The Brooklyn duo, consisting of Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm, are making some seriously catchy tunes at the minute. They dropped Brothers back in February, accompanied by an excellent video, and now are back again with next single All Of Me. The song has an instantly likable feel to it, a glorious sun kissed chorus and fantastic Ibiza style synths (No, come back!). The song follows the bands pattern of releasing songs with a dance feel accumulated from their own experiences, whether it be by travelling or just a fondness for this genre, and it works. Check it out in the link below.

Icona Pop - I Love It

I Don't Care

I’m a little late with this one. Truthfully I didn’t take to it the first time I heard it, the same way I was with Annie’s “Heartbeat” the first time I heard it. However, like Heartbeat, it’s simply a perfect pop song. Written by the excellent Charli XCX, this song is catchy as hell and sang by two ultra cool Swedish Girls. Without doubt this will be one of the summer’s biggest anthems. Check out the video below.

Beat Connection - The Palace Garden, 4am

Palace Garden, 4am

Seattle Dance-Rock quartet Beat Connection are back with a song just perfect for this insanely hot weather we’re getting at the moment. As can be expected with any new Beat Connection release it’s a fun, sun-kissed dance track, full of funky bass guitar, perky synths and dazy vocals. Named after an LCD Soundsystem track, if you were to give this band just a third of the time you gave James Murphy’s, you won’t be let down. Check out Silver Screen and Space Vacation for further listening.

The band’s debut LP Palace Garden drops August 6th via Moshi Moshi.

Jai Paul - Jasmine

Jasmine

Having pretty much flooring everyone with last year’s astonishing BTSTU, saying Jai Paul’s next single had a lot to live up to would perhaps be the understatement of the year. The song went on to be sampled by both Beyonce and Drake. His new single “Jasmine” sticks to Jai Paul’s modern R&B style, it’s got a seriously smooth guitar line and it contains more of the lushest vocals you’re likely to hear this year. The vibe I get off both BTSTU and Jasmine is that this guy is going to be massive. He signed to XL Recordings in 2010 and the future looks bright for JP. Check out Jasmine in the link below.

Tomorrow
Niki & the Dove - Tomorrow (2012) / Rating: 5/5

Swedish Electro-Pop duo Nicki & the Dove were kind enough to make this track available online while we wait on their debut LP “Instinct”. It starts off simple enough. A luring, jumpy synth line with Malin Dahlström’s soft yet haunting vocals building impressively before the song explodes into a chorus so huge it’s exhilarating. “Oh if tomorrow comes, I wanna waste my love on you”, cries Malin through a chorus so full of confidence and assurance that if the world was to end tomorrow, all that matters is her love for this person. A beautiful sentiment, a truly outstanding song that is sure to be a real festival moment this summer.

Instinct is out May 14th.
