Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans ft. Azealia Banks (Smims&Belle Remix) (2012) / Rating: 5/5

Smims&Belle is a new side project from Mark Foster and Isom Innis of Foster The People, and thankfully sound nothing like Foster The People. To wet their beaks they’ve jumped on the Lana Del Ray remixing bandwagon, like so many before them. When I saw that yet another band have had a go at remixing a Lana Del Ray tune I thought nothing of it until I saw Ms. Azealia Banks name thrown into the mix. What separates this remix from all the others is the formidable presence of Azealia Banks, who brings to the table yet another killer verse of her unique smack talking. Del Ray’s smooth vocals paired with Banks ferocious rapping while backed by Smims&Belle’s A-Trak/Swedish House Mafia style beats makes this one of the best collaborations I’ve heard in a long time. Outstanding.

It was always going to be tough following the excellent Gorrilaz, James Murphy and Andre 3000 collaboration but A-Trak, Mark Foster and Kimbra have given it ago in the latest release from Converse‘s Three Artists project. Obviously a hell of a lot more radio friendly than its last release, they’ve gone with Mark Foster from “Foster the People”, the excellent A-Trak and fast rising Kimbra from the hit ”Somebody That I Used To Know” this time around. It’s a fun pop tune and fans of Foster the People will really dig it. As I said, it was going to be tough, but they did okay! Check it out for yourself.
