Ceremony – Everything Burns

Another album that I “accidentally” (shamefully) overlooked this year was Californian punk rockers Ceremony’s ‘Zoo’ album. I was a late taker to that LP and I’m happy to say I haven’t looked back since, it’s a cracker. The band are back again with the announcement of a tour with Titus Andronicus this autumn/winter, as well as the release of a new single called ‘Everything Burns’. You can tell from its title that it’s another ferocious slice of garage rock, a real headbanger of a tune and the band sound as energetic as ever. Check it out below and be sure to grab your free download too. Dig in.

The Gaslight Anthem – 45 (2012) / Rating: 3/5

One thing I love about The Gaslight Anthem is how unashamed they are to follow in the footsteps of Bruce Springsteen. We need more of this from bands today. They unleashed their latest belter “45” on Monday and it’s another huge, stadium punk/rock release from the New Jersey band. With more of that endearing intensity that has come to be their trademark, the band build even more on their sound since the massive success that was “American Slang”.

Their new album Handwritten is out July 24th.

Krokodil

St. Vincent – Krokodil (2012) / Rating: 4/5

The latest release from Annie Clark’s St.Vincent is Krokodil and it’s an absolute punk banger! Released on Record Store Day, it’s up there with the best she has recorded. Her voice is fuzzed almost beyond recognition and the guitars, full of distortion, are hitting some serious riffs. It’s a slight step away from her familiar, softer, environment and it begs the question, will Clark release a full punk album?
