Swim Deep – The Sea

One of my favourite new bands, Birmingham’s Swim Deep, dropped two absolute diamonds last year with the release of ‘Honey’ and its B-side ’Orange County’. BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephen’s premiered their latest single ‘The Sea’ on his slot this morning. It’s another totally infectious piece of indie pop with some great ‘ooh ahh’ hooks thrown into the mix too. Their debut album is out this year too which should be great but in the meantime check out ‘The Sea’ below.

The Night Ablaze - We Go In Search

“In My World” is the debut album by Irish solo artist The Night Ablaze. It came out on December 3rd and is available now on iTunes, follow the link and grab a copy. I’ve given the album quite a few plays since its release, and the fact this is first material ever to surface from The Night Ablaze has truly blown me away. The albums opener, “We Go In Search”, is my current pick of the bunch so I decided to post it. There’s a rather touching sentiment to be found on this track. The lyrics become very uplifting when it shifts into gear on the 1:04 minute mark and I find it really springs to life. The combination of drums, guitar and in particular the piano will stick with you. This is an incredibly positive start from a really, really good debut and it’s worth checking out.

San Cisco - Beach

Australian indie-pop outfit San Cisco have a cracking tune out at the minute called ‘Beach.’ It’s set to appear on the bands first ever EP in the UK, ‘Awkward EP.’ They’ve also just announced they are set to support The Vaccines on their tour of the US so be expecting to hear a lot more from San Cisco.

METZ - Wet Blanket

METZ released their self-titled debut record back on October 10. For anyone that may have accidentally (or intentionally) overlooked it, this album packs a serious punch and it’s well worth checking out. It’s just loud, grungy, punk rock at it’s most glorious. The band just dropped a new video for the album track, ‘Wet Blanket,’ take a look below.

The Hoot Hoots - Home

The Hoot Hoots have just released a really fun new track called ‘Home’. I had a scan through their facebook photos while listening to this song a few times and there’s a clear connection between the bands personality and their music. ‘Home’ is quirky, catchy, infectious and a genuinely smart piece of indie power-pop. They are set to release an EP on November 29 called ‘Feel The Cosmos’, with ‘Home’ its lead single. A good choice!

Meowtain - Species

Head over to Meowtain’s BandCamp page to hear some excellent, raw energetic Lo-Fi pop-rock. Their music is a blast of hazzy guitars and splattered chords along with some wild female vocals. What’s not to like?

China Rats - (At Least Those) Kids Are Getting Fed

‘(At Least Those) Kids Are Getting Fed’ is the debut single by Leeds group, China Rats. It’s sharp and catchy as hell with an attitude reminiscent of The Libertines in their heyday. Download the track for free on their facebook page here.

NO - What’s Your Name

‘What’s Your Name’ is the latest track from L.A. based rockers, NO. These guys really have a massive sound, their music is excellently produced and stylish and when listening to their music you get the feeling that they’re heading for bigger things. If you’re a fan of either The Killers or Interpol then you’ll fall heavily for ‘What’s Your Name’, I guarantee. I hear the influences of both those bands all over this tune, not a bad thing either! This track is anthemic and catchy and its got a great rock melody that grows into something bigger as the song climaxes. Dig in…

Josh Homme – Nobody to Love

Josh Homme took time out from recording the long-awaited new Queens Of The Stone Age album to hit us up with a new solo track called ‘Nobody to Love’. As you’d expect from a Josh Homme solo track it’s a dark and murky number, with some really smooth blues-rock guitar playing and Homme’s unmistakable trademark crooning vocals. Really diggin’ this, check it out below.

Ceremony – Everything Burns

Another album that I “accidentally” (shamefully) overlooked this year was Californian punk rockers Ceremony’s ‘Zoo’ album. I was a late taker to that LP and I’m happy to say I haven’t looked back since, it’s a cracker. The band are back again with the announcement of a tour with Titus Andronicus this autumn/winter, as well as the release of a new single called ‘Everything Burns’. You can tell from its title that it’s another ferocious slice of garage rock, a real headbanger of a tune and the band sound as energetic as ever. Check it out below and be sure to grab your free download too. Dig in.
